The move buys more time for ongoing negotiations seeking to save the country’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers. The last-minute discussions further underscored the narrowing window for the US and others to reach terms with Iran as it presses a tough stance with the international community over its atomic programme. The Islamic Republic is already enriching and stockpiling uranium at levels far beyond those allowed by its 2015 nuclear deal.

It comes as the UN health agency opened its annual assembly, with a draft resolution in the works that acknowledges missteps in the response to Covid-19. The sweeping proposal would seek to boost pandemic response, stabilise the WHO’s funding and ensure greater access to healthcare – including to vaccines, tests and treatments linked to the coronavirus.

The Weeknd led with 16 nominations this year for his After Hours record and the chart-topping song Blinding Lights . He was followed by DaBaby coming in with nine nominations. Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, BTS were nominated in 4 categories for their chart-topping single  Dynamite , each followed by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande bagging three nominations, each. Hosted by Nick Jonas, it was the biggest night for The Weekend who won 10 awards, BTS swept awards in four categories, the late rapper Pop Smole won major awards posthumously. Pink accepted the Icon Award whereas Trae Tha Truth was honoured with the Change Maker Award, and Drake received the Artist of the Decade Award. The awards were based on the Billboard charts starting from March 21, 2020, through April 3, 2021.
